Day 1: Arrival and Exploration

Morning Departure from Hanoi to Hang Mua

Our journey began early in the morning as we departed from Hanoi, heading straight to Hang Mua. This place is renowned for its stunning lotus fields which are in full bloom during the summer months. The scenic drive took us through the rural landscapes of Vietnam, offering a glimpse into the tranquil life of the countryside.

Capturing the Beauty of Hang Mua

Upon arrival at Hang Mua, we were immediately taken by the vast expanse of lotus ponds. The sight of these delicate flowers swaying gently in the breeze was mesmerizing. We spent a considerable amount of time here, capturing photographs and simply soaking in the beauty of the surroundings.

Climbing Hang Mua Peak

Next, we embarked on the ascent to Hang Mua Peak. The climb consists of nearly 500 stone steps, but the effort is well worth it. From the top, we were rewarded with panoramic views of the Tam Coc valley and its meandering river. Watching the sunset from this vantage point was a highlight of our trip, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, and casting a magical glow over the limestone karsts.

Evening Stroll in Hoa Lu Ancient Town

As the evening descended, we headed to the ancient town of Hoa Lu. This area, steeped in history, was the capital of Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries. Walking through the narrow streets, we admired the well-preserved architecture and vibrant street life. The town’s night market is a fantastic place to try local delicacies, shop for souvenirs, and experience the lively atmosphere.

Day 2: Adventure and Serenity

Morning at Trang An and Tuyet Tinh Coc

Our second day started early as we set off for Trang An, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its boat tours through a landscape of karst mountains and caves. The tranquil boat ride took us through several caves, each with its unique formations and fascinating history. The serene environment of Trang An was a stark contrast to the bustling city life we left behind.

After the boat tour, we visited Tuyet Tinh Coc, also known as Am Tien Cave. This secluded spot is often referred to as the “Heaven on Earth” due to its stunning scenery. The turquoise lake surrounded by towering limestone cliffs creates a peaceful and almost otherworldly atmosphere.

Afternoon in Tam Coc and Bich Dong Pagoda

In the afternoon, we made our way to Tam Coc, another area famed for its breathtaking boat tours. Often called the “Halong Bay on land,” Tam Coc features spectacular karst landscapes and rice paddies. The boat trip through the Ngo Dong River was a relaxing experience, allowing us to marvel at the natural beauty surrounding us.

Our final stop was Bich Dong Pagoda, a series of ancient pagodas built into a mountainside. The pagoda complex consists of three structures: the lower, middle, and upper pagodas. A climb to the top pagoda offered us a splendid view of the surrounding countryside. The blend of natural beauty and historical architecture made Bich Dong a memorable end to our Ninh Binh adventure.

Return to Hanoi

As the sun began to set, we packed our belongings and started our journey back to Hanoi. Reflecting on the trip, we realized how much we had experienced in just two days. Ninh Binh, with its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, had left an indelible mark on us.

Ninh Binh Cuisine: A Culinary Delight

A visit to Ninh Binh is incomplete without tasting its famous goat meat and crispy rice (com chay). While we did not include specific restaurant recommendations in this review, we encourage you to explore local eateries and discover your favorite spots. The culinary experience in Ninh Binh is as rich and diverse as its landscapes.
